Light of Altair is a sci-fi colony building game with a deep plot. Grow colonies from landing pod to metropolis, while sending off new spaceships to expand your territory to other worlds. You are not alone in space, 8 factions from different parts of the world are all following their own agendas in the solar system; diplomacy and orbital-combat are essential to learn.
Light of Altair is based on a custom built 3D engine that enables easy zooming from galaxies all the way down to individual moons and asteroids covered in the colonies with their glass domes, mines and launch pads. AI War: Fleet Command Released

coreaiships

Indie developer Arcen Games has just made public an advance release of the RTS game AI War: Fleet Command. This is a pretty unique game, with several firsts for the genre.

- Cooperative RTS game (1-8 players) with numerous unique ship types.
- Challenging AI (some of the best in the genre) in 26 styles, many with unique superweapons.
- Insanely high unit counts: 30,000+ ships in most games.
- Lengthy campaigns featuring 80+ simultaneous planetary battlefields.
- Different Every Time: 16 billion procedural maps, each with specific units.
- A focus on deep strategy that you don’t get in most RTS games.

This is a game created by genre veterans for genre veterans, but that doesn’t mean it’s inaccessible for players new to RTS games: robust tutorials, a simulated campaign, and a free online mini strategy guide make it easy to get into the game, but hard to master it!

The Story:

It is here, on this respected Gaia, that the Ancients discovered the path to spiritual enlightenment, leading their spirits to rest eternally in the Heavens. The Earth witnessed it…

Plants Vs Zombies

Although PopCap Games isn’t particularly indie, this is still a good game, so I’m spotlighting it.

Plants Vs Zombies is a strategy game that’s kind of Tower Defense, although it has an interesting twist on the whole ‘TD’ thing. You have to collect sun to make plants which, as the name implies, you must fight against zombies with. The game starts out rather easy and simple, but starts to progress well. There are some “mini-games” in which you spend no points but just wait for plants to pop up at the top of the screen so you can use them. I had fun playing these parts especially. The game has a great sense of humor and it’s probably my second favorite PopCap game (next to Peggle which is still my crack when it comes to casual games). I’d recommend it to any casual gamer just as quickly as I’d recommend it to any other gamer. You should try it out….now.

The demo is quite fun, although I do not like the fact that you put your email in to download. Just unclick the “Keep me Up to date” and it’ll be fine.

Normal Tanks – There is nothing normal about it!

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know it’s been a while since I’ve done an indie game spotlight but I think this game really deserves it. It’s a simple shooter but it looks and plays great. Once you’re playing it the rock music and carnage will pull you in, it plays like some of the great shooters of old. And by old I mean the snes and genesis days. The bosses are a lot like Contra in how they’re fought and look. The demo is out now PLAY IT

We like this game so much that we are also hosting it here.
