Nuclearoids is a simple game where you are given goals to destroy certain spheres in each level. It’s basically a puzzle game…it’s simple…but also addicting. The game is definitely more than a 5 minute game and looks, as I said, simple. I think it’s one of those games that most would over-look, so I think it’s worth posting here. The game is really fun and will draw you into completing it rather quickly. Definitely recommended for at least a 5 minute check out, though I’m almost certain you’ll play longer than that.

Burrito Bison is another one of those “Kitty Cannon” style games. You fire a Bison Luchador out of the ring and try to get him to escape his Candied Captors. The game overall is very simple, and it looks great, both are good qualities for a 5 minute game. No you won’t FINISH the game in 5 minutes but you can play for about 5 minutes and come back. Chances are though that you will play longer than 5 minutes, as the game has quite a charm to it and is pretty fun. For those who like games like Flight, this game is very fun and deserves your time. Check it out.

The Light Temple is a 100% co-op game. The objective is to get both Fire Boy and Water Girl into their respective doors while making sure to collect the gems on the way. Fire Boy is the only one who can come into contact with fire and collect fire gems, just as Water Girl is the only one who can come into contact with Water and water gems. This game is better off played with 2 people rather than just going at it by yourself, although you can if you want. It also makes it rather easier to play with two different people. This game is a nice pick up and play flash game where it the gameplay elements kind of come to you easily, although things like lighting mirrors might be trial and error for you at first. I’d recommend giving it at least 5 minutes of your time (be warned, you might go longer than 5), and definitely if you have a partner with you.

Exit Path is like…Portal…kind of…from a 2D perspective…and very indie. The whole point of Exit Path is to get from one side of the screen to the other. You are confronted with multiple obstacles and dangers. If you die time will reverse until the last check point on that level or, if you haven’t passed a checkpoint, the beginning of the screen. The game is simply that, and at first glance it might not seem like much, and to be honest it is rather simple…but…so was Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo and that game is legendary, and one of my favorite old games might I add. Exit Path has a rather Portal-esque feel and has very Portal-esque jokes in it, while having no voice acting. The point I’m getting to is, try it out, it’s really a good game and deserves a try. It saves so you can play for 5 minutes, leave, and come back if you don’t feel like playing all the way through.

GunHound!

It’s a basic game, 1 vs. 1 duels from a top down view, but space style. Your mech is heavily affected by the lack of inertia in space as you fly around. Mechs have three weapons, one of which you choose from, and melee. It’s almost, kind of, like a shmup-fighter, too, because there can be lots of missile and bullets flying at you. Melee requires some ace piloting, as you’ll tend to just rocket by your enemies, but of course, it does a lot of damage, especially if you can keep on them, they can die in a flash. But a cool thing also, is how melee blades will clash if you both try. The arcade mode features constant 1 vs. 1s, and at the end, you’ll be greeted by a big boss. There are also a couple of cheats to play as other mechs, just check out the comments on the video.

So with that, I’ll talk some about the gameplay. There’s no other way to play other than ‘Practice’, which really should be called something like ‘Skirmish.’ It’s a mode where you fight with up to 8 mechs, and you can split into (several) teams. Actually, there IS a mission mode, but it doesn’t work past mission 1…

So you choose mechs, teams, and from 5 maps. The gameplay has quite a few buttons despite its simple appearance. You move your aim with the directional button, and hold a button to boost in the direction you’re pressing. It works really well, actually, so you can easily aim while moving. You have a shield button, boost, main shot, melee, secondary shot, and shield+backboost. Many mechs have different attacks depending on the direction you’re boosting, and different melee when and when not holding a direction. There’s also special attacks, which are done by pressing certain two buttons at once.

It’s a simple concept, and maybe the graphics will throw you off (I think they’re superb for an old indie game, but others would disagree…), but this game is actually very good and fun. It also has LAN play, but I can’t figure out how it works, because of a language barrier. The rest of the game is totally in English, though. It may be me, the nostalgic music (surprisingly catchy), or the mech designs, but this is definitely one of the best once you really get into it. I may be a little biased, as this was my first (and best) foreign mech game find, aside from Silver Knights, which already had a little English fanbase.

I’ll be starting with the basics, which probably most mecha fans know, or maybe not… This one is an obscure little gem.

Silver Knights!

This is the one that started it all for me. At first, I was thrown off by its subpar graphics, but the gameplay was really the heart. Now, though, the game has developed much more, with more content, and pretty impressive graphics. In this game, you pilot a mech in a 3rd person shooter styles, but you lock on to enemies rather than aim. Each mech has two weapons, and a special function, plus melee, and there’s a lot of’em. Your main form of movement is boosting, in short bursts. Really, the gameplay is simple, yet the game can be really intense.

It’s made up of only a skirmish mode, but you’ll soon realize that it’s all it needs. You can play with up to 8 mechs per game, and there’s many maps to choose from. Every mech has an unique playstyle, like setting up bits that shoot laser beams in sync with your mech, transforming into a plane, a sniper with 4 different main shots and a sniper mode, and a lot more.

But probably the best thing about the game is the ability to play online, it’s just so fun. One on ones against another human player can get really crazy, or you can team up and fight AI mechs together, or have team battles with other players. The game is pretty skill and timing based, despite its simple mechanics.

So if you’re interested, check out the fan-forum. It’s like my home forum… We’re a really small community, but we’ve been active for years, and we really need more mecha fans who want to play this online. Also, this game is actually still in progress, although the creator has taken a break from it, mostly because of lack of inspiration because of the small fanbase. Corporation Incorporated is something that seems to be a little rare in flash games. It’s a “tycoon” style game in which you run a Corporation. The money in the game is gathered from your workers clicking their mouses…yes…that’s the money…mouse clicks. Well anyway the game starts out giving you a bit of money and some objectives. When you complete all the objectives you win the game, it’s a simple tycoon game, that’s no fun right? Well actually I’m rather fond of tycoon games, and this one is just one of those good ones. Actually, if it could be sold if it were a dollar or two. It’s all in all a good tycoon game, and although it can be hard to distinguish a flash game as sticking out, it does that in my opinion. Really, if you like tycoon games and maybe a strategy game or two then check it out.

Age of War 2 is a pretty sweet little game, for those who like Tower Defense anyway. The game centers on creating soldiers on the fly as well as building up your tower to fight against your opponent’s armies. The game looks rather simple and might not look like it’s all that fun. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. The game is pretty sweet. It also incorporates a nice idea for the genre; you go through different ages and when you upgrade (or your enemy upgrades) the background changes with it. The style of the game gives you multiple ways to actually complete the game. It’s better played than described, so go check it out. Oh, and don’t forget to upgrade your armor and attack of your units and towers from the upper right corner of the game.

That’s the trailer for Space Captain McCallery Episode 2, there are 3 episodes in all. The games look like a throwback to old Nintendo graphics to me and that’s probably what piques my interest so much in them. While I have not yet played them (even after promising the developer I would T_T), they remind me of Adventures of Dino Riki (which I owned as a kid and loved and hated at the same time) for some reason. They are classic “arcade shooters” and look rather fun. You can also Donate to Ultimate Nerds if you want to help out.

Space Captain McCallery Episode 1, 2 and 3 are all freeware, and you can get them from Ultimate Nerds.

Ok so this game is one that I’ve wanted to do for an Armor Games pick for some time, but there have been some other good games too. It’s not the absolute best flash game I’ve played, but I seem to go back to play more of it and try to get farther in the game a lot. The game is based on a rogue-like RPG, Elona. What is it? Well, simply put, it’s a shooter. Your main goals are to gain money, level up, and survive all the days (if there is an end). This game is actually rather in-depth, and has the option for some moral choices as well. While I’m no fan of things like “robbing” people, you have the option of doing so in this game if you really need money, I for one do not rob even in this game. If you’re into click shooters, this is one to check out. I’ll warn you though, it can get rather hard.

I know that I originally started this as a monthly thing, but…well…bi-monthly isn’t too bad now is it? The second Armor Games pick this month is Shell Shock Live. This game is an “artillery game” done in the style of games such as Worms. The game is a pretty cool idea, it’s online. When you score hits on other players you gain experience and level your tank up. You then acquire new weapons for use as you level up, so the better you play, the more weapons you get. This game is pretty sweet, and I highly recommend trying it out. If you like the Worms games or other “artillery” style games, you will definitely like Shell Shock Live.

The guys over at Illusionware games sent us a tip of their game Roll hamster, roll. It’s a puzzle game in which you try to acquire the peanut by rotating around objects and rotating the objects themselves.

Game description:

An innovative puzzle game about a hamster

Get the peanut by rotating and moving around different figures, solve the puzzles, have fun an conquer the leaderboards.

Innovative gameplay, 30 levels, and a whole lot of fun.

Controls:

Flight has a bit of charm to it. The music has a nice flow to it and keeps the game going rather well, aside from a bug that causes music to play over itself sometimes (at least I have that problem on my system). It’s a rather simple game: throw the paper airplane and try to get it to go as high and far as you can. A main part of the game is moving on to other levels by going a certain distance across the screen. Overall, the main focus of the game is to upgrade your paper plane and get it to go farther and higher continuously by adding things like boost, lighter weight, better aerodynamics, upgrading the overall design, etc.

Flight is a rather fun little flash game and it deserves this month’s Armor Games pick, as well as a bit of your time. I recommend trying it out.

ConArtist, the same guys behind the Last Stand games, created these two World War 1 and 2 games. In the games your goal is pretty much the same, create soldiers/tanks on your side of the battlefield and push the enemy back on the other side. The Warfare games are done in an almost “action” rts style. In Warfare 1917 instead of having to gather resources, you simply have to wait to spawn units. In Warfare 1944 resources come automatically and they come rather quickly which keeps the game flowing nicely. Unless you make really bad mistakes you won’t be too far on the losing end. The graphics of the games are rather good. The developer(s) spend a decent amount of time it seems on actually making the game look good and not like every other flash game.

Overall Warfare 1917 and 1944 are pretty good games. I could see more games of this type being made and me enjoying them. If the games had more levels, were downloadable, and had more to them, I could see buying them for about $5 actually. I highly recommend you try them out, even if you aren’t really THAT into flash games.

Illusionware games just contacted me about their new game, Gravital Rescue, which I in turn checked out. The game is a mix of moon lander and gravity based games. Let me say this; there is no “I might die”…you will die. Fortunately the game doesn’t punish you harshly for dying, the points just go away while you are playing and sometimes it might be faster to just die than try to recover from your actions. If you are a fan of moon lander games you will probably like this one too. Check it out.

It’s a pretty cool little game, and I spent a few minutes playing around with it. The game does some cool looking simulation, especially since it’s all cubed water, and it does look pretty good with the classic Infiniminer style that most people attribute to MineCraft. The game looks pretty good, although the interface can be a little difficult to read here and there. While I didn’t do a whole lot I do have to say the game is a pretty cool little sandbox style game, and it’ll waste some of your time. Recommended? Yes.

I’ve been meaning to post this game for a couple days. I recommend trying it out. The game is more or less a pachinko style game with a little bit of a Peggle feeling to it. The game is very very japanese and…well you’ll just have to play it. Give it at least 5 minutes.

Well because of this, Simon “AuthenticKaizen” (aka the Pixel Prospector) contacted us with the news of his new “Pixel Prospector” site. Pixel Prospector / INDEV is Simon’s website which focuses on free indie games and posts about them, but what will the new Pixel Prospector site be? Well according to his post here:

In this game you can play as Mario, Link, Bill R. (From contra), Simon (From Castlevania), Megaman, and Samus. Each of them have their own unique abilities such as shooting from their original games!

Press Z to jump and X to attack or Run. S is an alternate attack for whatever character you are using.

* Mario – Mario is only character with the ability to run. He also gets fireball powers when he gets the flower just like in the original Mario NES. Mario has no alternate attack with S.

* Link – While in the air, link can perform an upward thrust or downward thrust by pressing up or down. He can also throw his boomerang to stun enemies and grab items by pressing S.

* Bill R. – Bill Can shoot in different directions if you hold up and down while moving. His powerups are very nice once you get him the flower.

* Simon – Uses the whip to kill foes. He also can double jump while in the air if you jump a 2nd time, don’t ask me how this is physically possible! Simon can also throw axes by pressing S. He can throw more axes at a time by getting a Mushroom or Firepower.

* Megaman – Uses his blaster cannon to shoot enemies. He can also slide by pressing down and Z while on the ground for a burst of speed. When megaman gets the Mushroom or Firepower he can charge his blaster cannon to get a charged shot that is very powerful.

* Samus – Samus uses her blaster to shoot enemies. She also can turn into a ball by pressing down. While in ball form she can set bombs by pressing X.

Well TNTBF was created as a contest entry into the YoYoGames “design a handheld game” competition. Because of this the game is free. Of course, upon first examination of the game I thought “hey something to post in the blog” then I downloaded it to see what it was like. What entailed was me spending around 30mins to an hour beating the game, dying over 200 times. Yes over 200 times, and I enjoyed every minute of it!

This game is…wow…that’s all I can say. Some might not get it and might not get as addicted, but I REALLY enjoyed it. Jonathan ended up chiming in while I was playing it and we were exchanging comments about how “i was addicted”. The game starts to get hard but pulls you in greatly. This game is definitely recommended, and you can’t take it at face value, play the game. If you like it, tell us or Jesse, his website is below where the game’s link is. If you hate it then you probably never played a nintendo and should really do something about that.

To sum it up, They Need to be Fed is great, it’s an awesome freeware game that will push you into beating it the moment you start playing and I did enjoy it thoroughly. I recommend playing it.

Space: The Retribution, is a simple yet fun game. It’s rather short, but it’s free and worth a play. It’s a space shooter with RPG elements, I recommend playing it.

“Do You Remember My Lullaby” is an interesting project. I put it under “Free Games” although, technically, it’s not a game. It’s a short story that is done with RPG Maker, as the developer describes it:

“It is an odd game around these parts of town.

Well actually, it is not a game at all.

Lullaby is a short story presented with the style [of a] 2D game (mainly non-interactive), partly as an experimentation to test the storytelling potential of this arguably relatively limited medium. No epic adventures, no battle filled tension, and barely even any [dialogue]. Just a short, simple story following one particular person’s day during the holiday season.

So if you have 20 minutes, why not give it a spin and see something a little different?”

I highly recommend checking it out, It’s a decent short, not what I expected. The developer is a good storyteller to say the least.

“Similar to Joakim’s The Legend of Princess, Ivory Springs is an incomplete project that is short on length but packs enough content to entertain for about half an hour or so. The game is an enjoyable exploration platformer which features great background art and sprite designs, a catchy soundtrack, directional shooting, Mega Man-type slides, and memorable boss fights.

There is a special guest appearance included as a surprise, but if you haven’t been following konjak’s work for a while now you’d probably wouldn’t even notice her cameo.

In case fullscreen mode doesn’t work properly and 2x resolution isn’t centered on your screen, try this method:

- switch to 2x
- right-click on your Windows desktop
- select display properties
- choose another desktop resolution (maybe 800 x 600)
- switch back to your original resolution

The game window should now be centered with 2x resolution mode enabled. Press Alt and F4 to quit at any time.”

This new game by developer Hyohyohyo (green giant) is a short 3D action adventure about personal growth and wanton destruction. Sentokun in Kamakura is the story of a monk with antlers on his head, on a quest to defeat a giant, antlered cowboy. I don’t know the fine details of the plot, but I assume their conflict is antler-related.

At the beginning, the monk is too weak to prevail, so to build up his strength, he must ransack a peaceful coastal town and raze it to the ground. If you wish there were more browser games that let you throw houses at people, you may enjoy this.

Music Catch 2 is a really fun…well…music catching game. The whole point is to catch all the colored notes except for the red ones. Yellow adds to your power and purple makes you pull all the notes (excluding reds) to your cursor. The cursor grows as you collect yellow notes and there are other notes that give you a cool power as well. Once you have unlocked it you can load your own mp3s as well. It’s definitely worth the play.

How to play (from the website):
“Move your mouse over the shapes to collect them as they appear to the music. No clicking necessary! Blue/Green shapes give you points. Yellow shapes will increase your multiplier and make your cursor bigger. Red shapes will reduce your multiplier and make your cursor smaller. Purple shapes are POWER! And those colorful shapes… well, you’ll just have to see for yourself what those do!”

“Shinobido is a web advergame for Acquire’s PS2 stealth-based action title with a similar name, in which players assume the role of a ninja who has to storm five different samurai strongholds, carry out their assigned objectives and reach the topmost floor to complete the mission.

“Exit Fate is a new full-length RPG from Origami, creator of the well-received RPGMaker effort Last Scenario. The game not only features standard 2D battle encounters but boasts a tactical strategy mode as well, in which players must assume control over legions of troops, issue commands and lead their armies to a crushing victory. Bonus items are awarded for good results, especially if the fight ends quickly with minimal losses to your side.

A new addition is the bribe system, allowing players to avoid potentially dangerous encounters by using the local currency as a bargaining device. Use the C key to confirm your selections, or press the X key to cancel your choices.

The magic system is also a slight departure from most common RPGs. You earn mana points as the battle progresses, meaning that most spells can only be cast after several turns. The number of times a spell can be used in each battle is limited, but unused healing spells are cast automatically to restore the health of party members after battle.

Press the Left Alt and Enter key to switch between full screen and windowed mode. This game comes highly recommended if you’re a big fan of RPGs, and wouldn’t mind a couple of ripped sound effects, music and familiar-looking tilesets.”

ShockBall is a free game, much like Soccer. The goal is to get the ball into your opponent’s….well….goal, and score more than he does.

“ShockBall is two player turn-based arcade game and the point of the game is to score three goals to win the match. You can play against computer opponent (three levels of difficulty) or another player on same computer or via LAN/Internet. Interactive tutorial explains rules of the game and basic gameplay and is recommended for all beginners.

Barnstable Loftus was a great inventor. He had been credited with the creation of the steam operated player piano and the fire powered ice cream refrigerator. What would become his most acclaimed and most dangerous invention, however, was yet to be revealed.
